SUMMARY: Works under supervision to perform transfers of hazardous and non-hazardous products into railcars and tank trucks as well as clean rail cars utilizing man less entry cleaning system with training provided in accordance with work instructions and government regulations (EPA, FRA, and OSHA).
REPORTS TO: Designated Trainers (during training period) and the Shift Supervisor Directly.
OPERATOR JOB SUMMARY:
- Participates in training under the guidance and direct supervision of a trainer. Trainers may be a skilled terminal operator, a supervisor or his designee.
- Receives instruction on how to safely prepare and perform transfers of hazardous and non-hazardous products.
- Receives instruction on how to safely prepare and perform cleaning operations on hazardous and non-hazardous GP tank cars, pressure cars, and hopper cars.
- Through training, becomes educated on terminal procedures applicable to the required tasks in accordance and in compliance with all governmental agencies (EPA, FRA, OSHA).
- Expected to perform all job duties with basic proficiency within 90 days of employment.
WILL BE REQUIRED TO OBTAIN AND/OR COMPLETE THE FOLLOWING:
- Obtain TWIC within 30 days of employment or have made application for TWIC.
- Will required to take and pass a Pulmonary Function Test and a Respirator Fit Test.
- Complete Site-Specific training
- Complete on Track Safety training
- Complete HAZCOM, HAZMAT, HAZWWOPER 40, ON TRACK SAFETY and all other off site training requirements
DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Arrive to the job on time and be prepared to work on a consistent basis.
- Attend all necessary operations meeting when required.
- Be attentive and pay close attention to the individual(s) performing all training.
- Always understand and comply with all basic safety requirements.
- Wear PPE always throughout the course of duty.
- Display and maintain high level of interest, self-motivation, and initiative always.
- Understand terminal work orders and complete check off sheets as required.
- Must be able to completely understand the procedures of the task at hand and be able to follow procedures with due diligence and perform accordingly.
- Must be able to obtain positive evaluations throughout the entire course of duty.
- Will climb on top and underneath railcars in order to perform loading/unloading, cleaning and associated tasks.
- Inspect and seal railcars.
- Safely operate small tractors, golf carts, and UTVs through the facility when required.
- Perform basic maintenance of equipment including inspections using checklists, lubricating, checking fluid, replacing/tightening nuts and bolts and basic repairs.
- Perform mechanical inspections using checklist.
- Participate in daily JSA meetings.
- Report all incidents and near misses.
- Understand and comply with customer confidentiality.
- Comply with cross training and work assignments at other terminals/locations as required.
- Verify/Report product integrity, product shortages or equipment quality.
- Perform all duties assigned by supervision or designated trainer.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS – WORK ENVIRONMENT
- Capable of climbing various heights of stairs and ladders, routine walking on uneven or moving surfaces, kneeling, bending, squatting and standing for extended periods of time.
- Able to lift, carry or pull equipment, tools or other devises of varying weights up to 60 pounds. Must be able to grip forces of up to 80 pounds.
- Must have the ability to communicate and comprehend instructions or directions clearly, both verbally and or in writing.
- Must have keen eyesight with regards to adjusting focus both near and far, depth perception and peripheral vision without difficulty.
- Must be able to work in all weather conditions and climate without issue.
- Must be able to work 12-hour shifts, days, nights, weekends and holidays.
- Must be able to work extended hours when required to meet deadlines.
- Will be required to be “on call” as dictated by the shift assigned and will be expected to cover call during those times (days or nights) without issue.
- Will be required to participate in random drug screening throughout the course of employment.
EDUCATION – SKILLS – SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS
- High School Diploma or equivalent (G.E.D.)
- Basic math, reading and writing skills.
- Must consistently show the ability to take and follow instructions cooperatively from fellow employees, senior operators, supervision and management.
- Valid driver’s license and social security card.
- Current TWIC.
