Safety Coordinator – Civil Construction & Railroad Track Maintenance

Position Summary:
The Safety Coordinator is responsible for developing, implementing, and maintaining health and safety programs for civil construction and railroad track maintenance operations. This role ensures compliance with OSHA, FRA, local, and company safety regulations while promoting a culture of safety across all project sites. The Safety Coordinator conducts site inspections, audits, training, and incident investigations to reduce risks and maintain safe working environments.


Key Responsibilities:

•Implement, and enforce company safety policies and procedures.
•Ensure compliance with OSHA, FRA (Federal Railroad Administration), and other applicable safety regulations.
•Conduct regular job site safety inspections for civil construction and railroad track maintenance projects.
•Identify hazards and implement corrective actions to reduce risks.
•Perform and document Job Safety Analyses (JSAs) and Risk Assessments.
•Lead and participate in incident investigations, root cause analyses, and develop corrective action plans.
•Maintain safety training records and ensure personnel are up to date with certifications and safety training.
•Conduct safety orientation for new hires and ongoing toolbox talks.
•Collaborate with site supervisors and project managers, to ensure safe coordination of work activities.
•Monitor contractor compliance with safety standards and contractual obligations.
•Prepare and submit safety reports, logs, and metrics to management and regulatory agencies as required.
•Promote a proactive safety culture through employee engagement and communication.

Qualifications:

•Must be Bilingual
•Must have a High School Diploma.
•Associate or bachelor’s degree in occupational safety, Construction Management, or a related field (preferred).
•1–3 years of experience in a safety role within civil construction or railroad industry.
•Knowledge of OSHA 29 CFR 1926 (Construction) and FRA safety standards.
•Safety certifications such as OSHA 30-Hour, First Aid/CPR, CSHO, SSH, or equivalent.
•Have a TWIC or able to obtain one.
•Strong understanding of railroad safety procedures, including Roadway Worker Protection (RWP).
•Ability to work in various field environments and travel to job sites as needed.
•Strong communication, documentation, leadership skills and conflict-resolution skills.
•Must be able to meet all physical requirements.
•Must have a valid Drivers License and periodic drug, background, and clearance screenings (employment is contingent upon favorable results).
•Must be authorized to work in the United States.
•Experience with PowerPoint, Excel, and Word.

Working Conditions:
•Field-based position with regular travel to job sites.
•Exposure to construction and rail work environments, including uneven terrain, loud noises, heavy equipment, and varying weather conditions including in the heat, cold, rain, snow, and wind.
•May require night and weekend work, especially for rail maintenance windows or emergencies.
•Will be required to wear personal protective equipment (PPE) including but not limited to hard hat, safety glasses/goggles, ear plugs/muffs, masks, safety vests, gloves, and steel toe work boots.
